The University of South Dakota’s President’s House Garden project has revitalized the site surrounding the historic Inman House, the official residence of USD presidents. Once a private residence, this garden was transformed into a park, inviting the entire USD community to come together. Now, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors can enjoy the outdoors with spaces for both quiet reflection and lively gatherings.

Nestled among the established landscaping are designated areas offering peace and serenity for personal contemplation. Specially designed event spaces facilitate university and alumni events, fostering a strong community spirit. A custom-built brick water feature serves as a unique focal point, adding elegance and the soothing sound of water to the garden.

Quartzite cobbles, salvaged from the “Pink House” that once stood on the garden site, have been incorporated into the design. This historical touch creates a tangible link to the community’s past, enhancing the rich heritage of the Inman House.

By transforming the President’s House Garden into a welcoming gathering space, the project has significantly enriched campus life. It has become a central hub for the Dakota Day’s parade, strengthening community pride and engagement. The dedicated event spaces also provide venues for alumni to reconnect with the university, fostering lasting ties and cherished memories.
