Stockwell partnered with the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls to design and oversee the construction of a vibrant new splash pad, enhancing the Zoo’s offerings and creating a fun, family-friendly destination. The project’s centerpiece is a recirculating splash pad system with animal themed water features for all ages. Surrounding the play area, shade structures and ample seating provide relief from the summer heat, allowing visitors to enjoy the space comfortably.
We worked closely with Zoo Staff to incorporate thoughtful amenities, including a restroom facility designed for accessibility and convenience. The facility features a mechanical building, family restrooms, adult changing tables, and body dryers, ensuring all visitors feel welcome and accommodated. Careful coordination of sidewalk connections ties the splash pad to other areas of the Zoo, enhancing pedestrian access and usability.
Throughout the process, Stockwell’s team evaluated drainage impacts and ensured compliance with ADA standards, creating a space that prioritizes functionality while maintaining safety and accessibility. By blending creative design with technical expertise, we delivered a project that not only adds to the Zoo’s recreational offerings but also serves as a community destination that will be enjoyed for years to come.
