Stockwell worked with the City of Worthington to develop a downtown event and gathering space. Through site analysis and meetings with the project steering committee, Stockwell looked to re-envision a downtown parking lot and an old gas station into a public art space opportunity that screens elements from the downtown street to the railyard on the southeast end of downtown.
In celebration of Worthington’s culturally diverse community, the incorporation of a world sculpture at the terminus of downtown’s main street provides a unique viewshed from north to south. Downtown streetscape elements greet visitors at the corners of the site and a pattern of stormwater planters and hardscape allows for maximum flexibility of use.
A large pavilion and public restroom provides a resting point for all downtown visitors and events throughout the year.
